The Grainery Food Co-operative is a 100% volunteer-run consumer co-op. Grainery members volunteer for 6 hours a month at our store on 2385 Agricola Street, Halifax.  Starting as a humble buyers’-club more than 10 years ago in our founding members’ garage spaces/living rooms, we have evolved into one of the North End’s longest-standing ‘foodie’ institutions. Education about Whole Food forms the backbone of our advocacy.

Active members enjoy a 15% discount on ALL purchases & have a vote in co-op decisions. Our specialties include Certified Organic Speerville Flour Mill Products, such as Newfound Oatmeal, Stone-Ground Whole Grain Flours, and Dried Beans. We also sell Dried Fruit, Nuts/Seeds, Granolas, Fair Trade Sugar, Downeast Soap Refills, and many other locally-produced products that can accommodate your food/cleaning/gardening needs.

The Grainery promotes environmental integrity by giving our customers the best possible prices on bulk/refillable products, thus cutting down on the amount of packaging & waste so common in conventional retail outlets. Because we have no “staff” to pay, we can offer affordable prices on organic foodstuffs that otherwise have restrictive mark-ups for lower income individuals/families in the HRM.
